300 Thursday again, where I'm posting bits of original work -- teasers from the novel I'm working on, some of my favorite poetry or prose I've done in the last few years, maybe some flash fiction or short essays, etc. -- all within 300 words or less.
Today's quickie is another poem I wrote a couple of years ago:

Apple for Teacher
We are teaching a standard,
with our standard of teaching.
But perhaps it was a fruit
a rule had to be broken.
Thoughts? Concerns? Anyone have some general rants? Something broke, the dog got out...? Rant away in the comments -- I dare you to. And how do we feel about the new background? Too busy? Or is it good, considering my general theme of fairy paths and such?

Moment of Magic today:
The magic explains itself...wait for it...
I love your new background, it adds a whole new dimension to the ambiance. I do have 3 rants which all share a general topic you will see as they unfold. Rant 1: I really can't stand it when people omit the apostrophe, and fail to capitalize the N in O'Neill. Rant 2: I am really bothered by the fact that St. Patrick's Day brings out fake Irish people and/or is equated with getting drunk. I am all for people celebrating their heritage, but I wish they would celebrate their own and not co-opt the heritage of the Irish and at that misrepresent it. Rant 3: When I got married I hired 1 of only 2 professional bagpipers in the state of WI. We met with him 5 days before the wedding. I asked him to play "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms" (my grandfather was an Irish tenor and it was to be in honor of him) he said he did not know it. One of my grandfather's other favorites was "Danny Boy" so I asked him to play that. He said he didn't know how. I said "Well, what do you know how to play?" He said Amazing Grace. So I had to stand there at my wedding awkwardly holding hands with my new groom while he played a FUNERAL SONG!!!! I have many more rants about my ghetto-fabulous wedding, but I will end here as this comment is terribly long. How are you?ReplyDelete
Love it. Love it all, so much. Thank you for the feedback about the background, and thank you for really ranting.Delete
I'm better, now, for having read your rants. Thanks for those, and for asking :)
This comment made me laugh!Delete
I like the new background a lot. It's eye-catching. The video confused me...still not sure what the magic moment was? :)ReplyDelete
Yay! Thanks for the feedback about the background. I was worried, but I felt like something needed to change? Dunno.Delete
And instead of explaing the bit about the video, I'm going to take the confusion as a rant ;)
I have 2 more rants: 1st, it really bothers me that my phone does not automatically capitalize the letter "i" when I am using it as "I" or "I'm". So obnoxious!ReplyDelete
2nd, it drives me mad when people pronounce the word "our" as "r" or "are". It's pronounced as "HOUR"! If you, meaning anyone disagrees, I don't care! It drives me mad everytime!
Note to self: Do not, under any circumstances, pronounce "hour" as "our" when around Heth.Delete
Good to know.
I like your background. It is very inviting and welcoming.ReplyDelete
Thanks Kathy. That is definitely what I'm going for, so I really appreciate the feedback.Delete
And thanks for the easy link to your blog -- I liked your recent post, about the dream vs date book. It was interesting to think about.
I'm liking the background.ReplyDelete
Rant: My schedule is so hectic with teaching and coaching now that I don't have time to get to the chiropractor or to UPS to send some items back to the online store. Why can't people have hours that are more conducive to people who work until 5:30-6?
Nice. Thanks for the feedback about the background.Delete
And as regards your rant, I have to pipe-in... business hours have been a pet-peeve of mine for years. There's never enough time to do everything you need to do in a day anyway, and then when you finally are able to find time, businesses have shut down already. I hate that feeling when you run up to the front door of a place and it's just barely, barely closed. Uuugh! I always jiggle the locked door for good measure, and the people on the other side look at me and shrug, pointing to the "hours of operation" sign.
Good rant. Thanks for sharing it so I could get that off my shoulders too :)
I tried to add a rant, but I feel rant-less this morning! I'll try harder next time!ReplyDelete
Ha! You make being rant-less sound like it's a bad thing...again, you make me smile. Thank you :)Delete
Love the background, I can just imagine faries fliting in and out of the branches and leaves, very magical :-)ReplyDelete
Yay! Sleepy Joe! Thanks for coming to visit, and for your feedback. I'm glad you can imagine that...very much what I'm going for.Delete
